Dear Students:
We live in a society that is about 200 years old, with pros and cons compared to our nearby neighbours from South America. We are still a nation that grows as time goes by, but with no identity whatsoever. Somehow, music represents a country's culture and elicits a glimpse of who we are. For example, the beattles, The rolling stones or los prisioneros (back in the 80s). WOMAD, for instance, promotes multiculturalism through a concert which gives the opportunity to musicians to represent their countries by playing music.
Considering the former idea, What type of music best represents the Chilean culture? is it same for children, teenagers, adults or elders? why / why not? Should students have more hours of music at school? why /why not? What type of concerts are held in Chile? Do you like them? Why?
Please leave a comment between 170-200 words.
Useful Expressions: genre, interculture, exchange, spread, promote
Deadline: May 31st, Friday
Kind Regards,

ReplyDeleteHi Teacher! :
ReplyDeleteThe national dance and the music of chile is ¨la cueca¨. In my opinion,¨la cueca¨ is a genre of music for all audiences, since for generations children and adults have enjoyed this style of music for centuries.
I think not, if you like music, you can enter to an workshops or watch videos on YouTube to learn.
One of the concerts with more intercultural promotion is "The Festival of Viña del Mar", I like it, because this concert promotes all kinds of music.
Hi teacher!
ReplyDeleteThis topic is really interesting, because the Chilean society is very diverse and scattered. I think that the type of music that best represents the chilean people is the genre of Reggaeton, because they are daring, crazy, but they are not bad people. I think that this changes depending of the ages, because they are of different generations with different thoughts and tastes.
About school I think that is really necessary to stimulate the students with music, because this help them to relax, so yes, the students should have more hours of music.
Famous concerts in Chile are for example Lollapaloza, Rockodromo, etc. and I like this because thanks to the spread and promotion people comes from different places and happens the appreciated interculture exchange.
This is my opinion about this topic.
Good bye!
Hello teacher:
ReplyDeleteThe music that best represents our country is the "cueca"because with these sounds I was born. Thanks to this song or dance several Latin American countries know that is from the Chileans the Chileans.
No, for everyone it is not the same because in the case of the children they are in a Decade where they listen to another type of music for example Anuel bad Bunny etc, and they do not know what is really the Chilean music in this case the cueca.
For teens, they may have a little knowledge, but like children they hear another kind of musical genre.
And for adults and seniors it’s the opposite because since kids this musical genre has it in their hearts.
No, because we cannot change more hours of music by some of mathematical language etc. What they can do are workshops to exchange the thoughts we have about that music.
"Festival of viña", "Olmue",etc.. I like more the "viña" because you see more variety of music (promote all the musical Genre)
Hello Teacher!:
ReplyDeleteFirst, the type of music that best represents Chilean culture is folk and reggaeton music, because they are the most popular, like everywhere I go, it always sounds one of these two genres.I think that isn´t a bad thing, that is why, for example, in the case of folk music, it helps in the intercultural theme, because the foreigners can listen and know a little bit better the Chilean culture. Second, it´s not the same for children, teenagers, etc…, because, some songs aren´t for children, like reggaeton or trap, for the language that they use, and elders don’t listen the same music as teenagers, so everyone has their style of music. Third, I think that the hours of music at the school are good and it’s not necessary, because not all the students like the music that the school plays, so they can have their own hours to practice the music that they like. And finally, in Chile are all types of concerts, with differents themes that spreads and promotes the culture behind the songs, yes, I´d like some concerts, because I´d like the exchange of cultures, and the music.
First of all, I'd like to say that Chilean people have a lot of cultural diversity, so I think we do not have one type of music that represent us. Although; I think "cueca" represents us the most, because is the national dance, and most of Chileans knows how tp dance it.
ReplyDeleteDepending on the age, the average of music genre listened from them varies. For example, now on, most of teenagers and kids listen to reggaeton, unlike elders or adults, that listen to other kind of music. This situation is probably caused because when you are young, you prefer other kinds of things.
I think we have too many hours of school, and attach more would be disastrous and unnecessary, but giving resources to school workshops could be a good idea.
The most known example of concert in chile is Viña's festival, an intercultural festival held in february every year, through 5 days. I like these kind of festivals because they spread the message that the artists want to show, giving a cultural exchange between the countries.
The music that represents chilean culture today , guided by what the vast majority hear (including me) is trap or reggaeton, hated by many, but the large percentage of children, and teenagers, even adults often listen to this kind of music, because teenagers singers know how to reach this kind of audience.
ReplyDeleteIt is very common among children and teenagers, they are the ones that spread this musical genre, the older people or the elderly, for example, had a different context where this kind of music didn't even exist, the lyrics of this musical style were not like those of their days because now there is talk of sex, drugs, alcohol and crime, not in every song but the great majority and this its not of preference for them.
They should have more hours of music at school as way of distraction because many teens tend to get a little stressed out at school, with tests and job, a few hours of distraction wouldn't be a bad idea.
Different types of musical genres are trached, electronics, cumbia, pop, rock, trap, metal, etc. I like to attend to some, concerts like cumbia, trap, pop, are the musical styles that extend my songs, my favorite is trap, not so much because of the lyrics but because of the beat that the songs have and sometimes their lyrics are very real and i can identify my self.
Hello teacher.
ReplyDeleteChile has many types of dances in its culture, but the cueca represents us nationally.
In my opinion the cueca is heard by all kinds of people, but today's young people listen to it and dance out of obligation, whereas older people enjoy this genre of music because they were raised and taught to like it and there was not such a broad knowledge about musical genres as today.
I think that the hours of music already established in the curriculum are fine, because it is not necessary to teach only this, but to promote the musical taste, they should implement more recreational workshops focused on music.
In Chile many types of festivals are celebrated, but the most famous are the festival of Dichito, Olmue, Loollapaluza and the festival of Viña del Mar. I like these festivals because they mix different musical genres for each taste, they also invite great exponents of Chilean and foreign music to participate, where they also give way to humorists and tributes to Chilean folklore.
Hello teacher
ReplyDeleteThe music that best represents the Chilean Culture is the Cueca, because it identifies the country. This music and dance represents us all over the world. Another important genre is reggaeton.
In my opinion it is different because now children listen to Trap and reggaeton, since that is what is currently heard. On the other hand, adults and the elderly listen to old music like romantic music, Cueca, cumbia, and others. In my opinion it's not necessary since it's not important have more music in the school.
The most well know festival is LOLLAPALOOZA and the Viña del Mar festival. I like festivals because they are very entertaining and you can enjoy yourself. In addition, the latter is well known in the country because various singer come.
In my opinion, Chilean culture can’t be defined by one music genre, because Chile is a very diverse country and it has a variety of traditional music depending on what part of Chile we are focusing on. For example, northern people have Andean music, people from the center of Chile have Cueca, and southern people have Bals and Polca.
ReplyDeletePeople of different age groups prefer different genres of music, based on where they come from, what they grew up listening to, what kind of people they surround themselves with, and a lot of other factors that play a big role when forming our music taste.
I don’t think students should have more hours of music at school, simply because not every student enjoys this subject, that’s why they can choose to take either music or art class, making a decision according to their own likings and preferences.
Chile has a massive amount of concerts being held every month, of every music genre that you can possibly imagine. A lot of international artists come to Chile and that leaves you with the possibility to choose which concert you wanna attend to. For example, in April I assisted to a Anuel AA concert, and I enjoyed it plentifully.
Hi teacher
ReplyDeleteIn Chile there are many types of music that you can listen to, but there are some that are more known.
The music that represents Chilean Culture is “música folclórica”. The most important singers of this kind of music are Violeta Parra, Victor Jara, Fernando Ugarte, Tito Fernández, Joe Vasconcellos, Gepe, etc.
I think that the preference of music is different for children, teenagers, adults and elders. Children like music on the tv shows for kids. Teenagers like reggeaton and trap music. The adults prefer different music that depends on their age. For example, the adults of thirty years old prefer reggeaton, cumbia, rock or folclore. The adults of forty and fifty years old prefer the 80’s music. And finally, the elders prefer the 70’s music.
I think that the students should have more hours of music at school because the children and teenagers don’t know much about all kind of music that exists.
In Chile had been a lot of concerts, that the most are of rock and pop music. I don’t really like this kind of music. I prefer reggeaton and trap.
Hi teacher!
ReplyDeleteI think that the music that best represents chile is cueca, because is more characterized by the mix of traditional sounds in the north, as well as in the center and the south, one of the best singer of cueca is violeta parra. but the teenagers do no think the same since they prefer the genre of reggaeton, bachata and that type of music that is more moved.
I think it would be good to have more music classes in schools, because the children who perform better in art classes in general for example: visual arts, rhytmic gymnastics, plastic arts, art in sculpture, etc.
the concerts that are hed in chile are: pop music, rock and rol, open field festival, life concert, metal concert, opera urban trap and all kinds of music. yes, i do.
Hi teacher
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the Chilean culture can’t be represented by a musical genre because it is something very different, since for me culture is the idiosyncrasy of a country, but on the contrary, in my opinion, Chilean society can be represented by a genre. musical that is the cumbia because it is fun, moved, some more daring, others with romantic lyrics, among other qualities that can possess and this makes anyone can feel identified with some song of this genre. And in response to the second question, the cumbia can cover any age range, and is intercultural, so that anyone can like and feel identified with it, regardless of the age range, or the country of origin.
I think it's okay with the hours we have a week of music because I feel it is a matter to distract for a while, express what one feels through an instrument, and develop other types of skills and intelligences, not just subjects like mathematics and biology, so yes, I think more hours of music are needed, and could be exchanged for some subjects not as relevant as religion perhaps.
The types of concerts that are made in Chile I think it is very diverse, because they are made from classical music concerts, to the concerts that are made in the discos, and if I like them, but only one of these types of music trap and those things, because I like that kind of music, the people who sing it, and the vibes,

ReplyDeleteHi teacher!
ReplyDeleteReggaeton is the type of music that Best represent the Chilean culture. However, reggaeton do not represent adults and old people; in general, adults and old people prefer cumbia and folklore music, because maybe these genres are very old, I don’t know, i prefer pop genre, so i do not know what is the true reason. Children, between three and seven years old, prefer songs made specifically for them, like “Baby shark dance”
Students should not have more hours of music at school, because not everybody likes this class and prefer other classes, like art.
In Chile, People celebrate different music concerts like the "Ruidosa Fest", the "Womad"(it is very important, because it promote intercultural exchange and it spreads positivity to its attendees), the "Hybrid Fest", the "Lollapalooza", etc. I dislikes all concerts in Chile, because I do not like the type of music that they offer, in general reggaeton or Metal genre.
In conclusion, I feel that the music that represent Chile does not represent me, i think they should add more genres to please everybody.
Bye!
Hi teacher,
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of musical genre that can represent our country. In teenagers it could be reggaeton or trap, in adults maybe latin rock, but If I must choose only one it could be cueca, cause it’s the typical dance and music of here for long time. How I said before, its different depending of your age, cause they live in different time, this mean that the popular music of different period of time is different, for example, my dad born in 1969, and he often listen latin rock, and I often listen Hip-Hop.
I don’t think that we need more hours of music, cause in our case, we have full-time at school, so get more will be tired for us, and if we want to listen music, learn to play the guitar or something like that, we have apps like youtube.
The most famous “concerts” here are the festivals, like Viña del Mar, Talca, or events like Rockodromo or Lollapalooza. I like these events cause it’s a good time for bands to spread their music, or maybe promote their news albums. Other reason cause I like these events it’s cause i think is a good moment to exchange music with other countries or parts of the world for example, the festival of Viña del Mar is televised to more of 10 countries, (I don’t know exactly) with this, we can said that it’s a intercultural festival.
Hi teacher!
ReplyDeleteReggaeton is the genre of music that Best represent the Chilean people. However, reggaeton do not like to adults and old people; in general, adults prefer cumbia and rock like nirvana, or the kind of rock, and old people likes folklore and maybe cumbia too because maybe these genres are very old, I think, I’m not sure. Childrens, between 6 and 12 years likes songs like "my chocolo dog". well I think, students should have more hours of music at school, because music is very important like math, music can make you feel good, relax or motivated, I’m in art class because I suck in music but I love it and is necessary for not to be stressed. Chile, have many different concerts like the "Lollapalooza", the "Womad" it´s a concert than promote intercultural exchange and it spreads positivity to the public, the "Hybrid Fest", the "Ruidosa fest", "viña del mar" etc. I like all concerts in Chile, because I like all type of music; in general, at concerts play music of reggaeton or trap. to finish, I feel that the music that represents Chile, I like, but I wish there were more types of music.
Bye!
ReplyDeleteHi teacher!
I believe that Chileans do not have a definite genre of music, since young people and children share a little genre in common, the same for adults and the elderly. This is because a generation is in charge of exchanging their music with the new generation and so on.
I think they should have more hours of music, because in this way we acquire more creativity and in a certain way an "interculture", by learning about other folklores and in some cases they mix the music.
In Chile they hold all kinds of concerts from the smallest ones like those that take place in the "Movistar arena", to the biggest ones like the Lollapalooza, only for some there is a greater diffusion. If I like them, because I think the music is good to reflect people’s feelings or to have a good time (moments of recreation), besides that everyone can come to witness "in live" of the people who admires musically.
Bye
Hi teacher:
ReplyDeleteI think that the music that best represents Chileans is the cueca since it is the traditional music and dance in Chile and also the cumbia since it is one of the most listened to musical styles in Chile and that has been heard for a long time and in important celebrations like September 18, or birthdays
I think that since this music has been going on for several years, it is almost a habit to listen to it and everyone is listening to them as children, teenagers, adults and olders. As I said before, this music is heard at all times is part of the Chilean culture
not because not everyone likes music but that they like something else like dance or art and those people would be forced to have more music hours. I think that if someone likes to study in another place and did not force other people to learn something that perhaps for them is not as important or relevant
Is the lollapalooza or el festival de viña among others, really if I like it because it shows a musical variation that takes us out of the music of always
I believe that today there are different musical genres in Chile, because of the cultural exchange that is happening in Chile thanks to the immigrants, but the music that represents Chile itself is the Cueca, on a national level, and then theres the music that represents each region. I think most people think that Cueca represents us as a country, however the current generations listen to Trap music for the most part. I don't think there should be more music hours in Chile because if someone wants to get more music classes, they can go to a workshop. In Chile, there are varieties of concerts of all types of genres
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHello Teacher, I think there is a mix of music that represents the Chilean culture because trap music and reggaeton are the most popular genres today and I think a lot of of people listen to it, such as kids, teenagers and even some adults. In the other hand, ‘’cueca’’ is the national genre of music and, how I was saying it’s a mix of both. And music preferences aren’t always the same for kids, teenagers, etc, But trap, reggaeton and urban music in general, are the most popular types of music. In todays world we can see kids listening to ‘’Paloma Mami’’, teenagers listening to ‘’Anuel AA’’, ‘’Bad Bunny’’, etc and It’s almost the same for adults, but their music taste is so diverse, that you never know what type of music people could be listening to. Also in my opinion, kids shouldn’t have more hours of music but I do think that they could change what type of music they teach us because I think kids can learn more about music of another cultures, maybe from Africa, Asia, USA, etc. And the most popular concert that is held in Chile is ‘’Lollapalooza’’, that is the one that people promote the most and everyone knows about it.

Hi Teacher!
ReplyDeleteThe type of music that best represents the Chilean culture would be Reggeaton. This type of music is very common in the Chilean culture, you can find it from the south to the north. I would say this music is around the same for each generation, yes it varies, but it’s still very similar. Each generation from kids, teens and adults have their own form of this type of music, regatón is the main music type in Chile. Still there are different types of regatón for each generation, there’s old regatón, new regatón and eventually a newer form for the next generations that will be developed in the next few years. I would say that music is very developmental for students, especially those of younger ages and that schools should be required to have a music program in their curriculum. Students should be required to perform for at least two years to fully experience music. Music is a form of development that is essential for future generations, it brings education and morals to our children. There are multiple concerts in Chile, from street performers to large concerts with thousands of people. I enjoy the music played at these concerts, I enjoy the intimacy that music brings to people and a culture. In the end music is essential for cultures, each culture has its own type of music that effects their people. Music is what brings people together wether it is in times of sadness or joy.

ReplyDeleteI think the genre of the music that represents the chile is not defined today a muco cultural exchange but I could also say that the Cueca is the genre that represents a chile although it varies a lot since you ask someone young will tell you the trap or reggeton since in my opinion they focus more on the rhythm of the music than on the lyrics on the other side if you ask someone older they fix more on the lyrics than on the rhythm. answering the question of if I think that in Chile you should have more hours of music in chile in my opinion I think that since it is a way of relaxation and experience our creativity and finally on the type of concerts that are made in chile thanks to the cultural exchange that takes place they vary a lot in genre From kpop to trap.

Sorry teacher but don't have computer in this moment
Hi teacher:
ReplyDeleteTo begin, to find that the genre of music that most identifies us as the culture this last time has been reggaeton, I think that is the reason for being the same as the music that young people listen to every day, but on the other hand I think that is not the same for everyone, since adults listened more to other genres than to adolescents; In my opinion, I think I should have had more hours of music and that there is an exchange of cultures between countries and a greater interculture between zones and countries is created.
On the other hand, here in Chile the main festivals that take place are the rockodromo in valparaiso, the lollapalooza and the song in the "viña del mar"; In general, in my opinion I do not like festivals very much because I do not like to be in activities where there are many people gathered, because I get very nervous in all the people shouting or dancing, that's my opinion.
Hi teacher!!
ReplyDeleteConsidering the previous topic, I believe that the genre of music that represents us most today is reggaeton, since it is a style that has been heard for a long time, is motivated and defines us as a good society for the "reel" and despite that the songs have a vulgar language, in the day to day it is enjoyed much especially in the youth; adult people usually know and enjoy it but only on certain occasions. In my opinion I think that if it is necessary to have more hours of music, since different cultures will be known, thus creating a musical interculture apart from being able to leave stress and get distracted one hour a week. During the year the Festival of vineyard, Lolla palooza, rockodromo, Festival of Olmue, among others ... I really like them because they are accessible and dedicated so that all public have fun and leave the daily routine, not forgetting to mention that these events have a good promotion that allows the arrival of people from other areas.

ReplyDeleteHello teacher.
ReplyDeleteFirst, Chile is a country that don’t have an identity whatsoever, as you previously mentioned, so I think that there’s not a representative type of music. Maybe, in the 80’s Rock was the best type of music to represent us, because The Beattles or Los prisioners promotes their music around the country, or Reggaeton in 2010 was in teenagers, Cumbia in adults and pop in children, it depends on the age and the time. On the other hand, I´d like to mention the typical dance and musical genre of Chile: “Cueca”, maybe this type of music and dance can represent us much more that other, because is our national dance and everybody knows it, children, teenagers and adults.
Second, I think that we shouldn’t have more hours of music at school or any subject, because now we have many hours of school and is awful.
Third, In Chile there are many concerts of different types of music and the best example of this is Viña's festival, an intercultural and yearly festival that presents rock, pop, reggaeton, etc. Yes, I like these kind of festivals, because they spread the music, different types of music of different artist to any part of the world. This kind of festival give us a cultural exchange between the countries.
Thanks, bye
Hi teacher.
ReplyDeleteTo answer the first question i think the best genre of music of our country is Folk and Reggaeton. Folk being the music that plays on our national dance the "cueca", it represents our country as a whole how they sing and how they express themselves is very chilean. Reggaeton is more fitting to teenagers and also adults it represents the younger generation since the beats are faster it makes us dance, perfect for parties since chileans love to party and celebrate.
Answering the second question i think we have enough music classes at school, since its more practical and educational.
They are all types of concert here but most of them are more "Trap" and "Reggaeton" themed. I think its not the best because it spreads and promotes violence and drugs to the younger generation. I think they should exchange those types of concerts with other genres, they are many types of music and it would be best to listen to them with an open mind you might find a new genre to enjoy.
Peace !
-Michael Alvarado
Hi teacher
ReplyDeleteI think the most relevant band and genre of music is the rock because in the 80´s Los prisioneros make music against the dictatorships and make the people more unity and i think the hours music is good because the teachers teach how to play music and the students learn about this for example the rythem, etc and i think the childrens listen more reggueton and the teanegers listen reggueton, rock and trap the adults listen pop rock and other type of music and the elders listen more culture music for example the cueca and bals and the type of concerts are in Chile is more like for all type of people because all singers and bands can toched the music for all type of people for example the sudamericans rocks bands is more knowit tha USA band
Bye teachers

Hi teacher.
ReplyDeleteThe music in Chile is very varied, but the music style that represent to Chile in my opinión is Reggaeton, because this type of music is a perfect representation of the party spirit tha the chileans have. No, for example for the teenagers the best representation and the style that is the most listened is the Trap, for the childrens i don’t now, can be “La vaca Lola”, and for the older people is the 80’s music, because not everyone has the same preferences. No, because i prefeer that the clases of Music be of a better quality that this subject have more hours. The Festival “Viña Del Mar”, i like this festival because this show us and for the world vaired types of music, and not only one type, also this festival show typical customs of our country, giving the world Chile know.
Thanks for you attention
-Cristian Bravo.
*Sorry for the late*
Hello Teacher.
ReplyDeleteOk, is a hard question, i think that the best musical genre that represent to the Chilean culture is the “Cueca”, because is the typical music and dance of Chile, and all or the big part of the country knows how to dance this.
Obviously not, because the musical popular genre depend of the person, not is the same in the teenagers that in the adults or older people, I think that this depend more of the time that the people are, for example the people of the eighties heard more rock, the people of the fifties listened more classics, and now the children and the teenagers listen a lot of kind of music as cumbia, trap, rock, metal, etc.
I think that if, since this helps us to open our minds to other tastes, and to make an exchange of cultures, because in the school is always the same and that bores a lot, something that affects mental health.
In Chile have a lot of concerts, a lot of them are so intercultural for the spread of tastes that the people ask for them, i liked this concerts, because there are a lot of people generated by the promote of the media.
Matias Diaz Vargas
Hi Teacher.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I think that the genre of music that more represent Chile its the reggaeton, because this genre of music, its one of the most actualy, and the persons generaly like this genre of music, because its danceable of a particular form called "perreo". The interculture of the genre of music are in constant exchange, because in the world the music are in evolution, for this the music that like to the persons are different in the pass of the time. In my opinion I think that I dont like the idea of more hours of class, because mi school have a long spread of class, for this I dont like the idea of more hours of music or more hours of class in general. The concerts in Chile are generaly show and music and have much varieties, for example the artist or the genre of music that sing. The concerts are made in the Movistar Arena in Santiago. I like the concerts, because promote the music and the love for this.

Hi teacher
ReplyDeletefrom me to everyone:
In this time all the people and specially teenagers listen trap music,I like that music and in chile is very popular, I think both are very popular and not only in my cuntry,I mean say around the world here in chile a lot of music all thr concerts are always very crowded with all their fans.
